Three “B’s” of Outdoor Signage

Use outdoor signs to showcase your business and promote the goods and services you have for sale. Strategically placed outdoor signs can in fact increase the amount of foot traffic coming into your store. Following the 4 “B’s” of effective outdoor signage, then and only then, will you achieve your goal of increasing your store traffic and profits.

One “B” of outdoor signage involves the placement of your signage. If you want more foot traffic to come into your store, consider placing your signage on high-traffic public streets such as those found in San Francisco’s Financial District or in the central business district of any big city. These are the locations where people are likely to glance at your outdoor signs and possibly stop to read what’s on them. In fact, when these types of public places are used for indoor businesses, people often turn around and walk away because they don’t see the signage. Don’t fall into that trap and make your outdoor advertising work!

The next “B” is to ensure your outdoor signs are weather-resistant and lightweight. A sign that’s prone to being exposed to sun, rain and wind will need to be replaced every few years because the plastic coatings are no longer as resilient as they used to be. The most common material used for outdoor signs and banners is vinyl graphics. Weather-resistant vinyl graphics are especially suitable for use outdoors.

The third “B” of outdoor signage is easy maintenance. Signage is something that you don’t have to worry about during normal office hours because it’s usually covered up by other structures like buildings or light poles. However, during the cooler days and during winter, you need to take the time to wipe down your outdoor signs, banners and billboards to keep them looking their best. This should be done even if you’ve already replaced them because some signs and outdoor signs have a tendency to rust or melt in extreme weather.

The final “C” is cost. Outdoor signs and advertising materials come in a wide range of price tags, but not outdoor signs and banners are meant to serve a functional purpose. That means that outdoor signs and banners need to look attractive, are highly customizable, and require low maintenance. You can save a lot of money by buying pylon signs because they’re inexpensive and highly durable.

Your last option for affordable outdoor signs is to buy your materials from a reputable sign company. Some sign companies may charge you up to 25% less than coroplast, although there is some variation between chloroplast and other similar materials like aluminum, fiberboard, polyester, vinyl, wood, etc. You can get the best combination of materials for your signage needs by working with a reputable sign company.
